Staying mindful at your wedding

Breathe

Breathe in for four counts and out for eight. Your mind will settle, your nerves will calm and you can enjoy your surroundings.

Be mindful on cue.

Choose a phrase you’ll hear often on your wedding day, like ‘how are you feeling’ or ‘are you excited’ and use it as a cue to be mindful.

Play 5-4-3-2-1

Pick out five things you see, four things you feel, three things you hear, two things you smell and one thing you taste (if possible).

Use your hands

Feel the material of your wedding gown, the curls in your hair, the warmth of someone’s hand. This is experiencing the moment.

Enjoy a hot beverage.

Sit down for a cup of coffee or tea. Hold the warm mug in your hands and sip slowly while taking in everything around you.

Be thankful

You can do this through prayer, by saying it out loud to the people around you or writing it down like you would in a journal.
